Takedown

Typically, take down of existing treatments and hardware is part of the general contractor’s scope during renovation, however, there are times when we are asked to provide take down service during new treatment installation. The below is an attempt to clarify scope and ensure alignment of all parties when these instances arise.

Scope

Lets ensure everyone is clear on what’s being taken down- hardware only or hardware and treatments alike, where are these removed items being taken to, and what conditions are to remain post take down.

Removal and Disposal

Typically, we will remove the product from the window and place it at the entrance to the room (guestroom corridor, etc.) assuming the disposal will be completed by others. However, should specific arrangements be confirmed in advance, we are also able to provide removal and disposal to the property’s onsite dumpster. Please note these are two different services (removal and disposal) and the specifics need to be confirmed with Project Management prior to our arrival.

Patching and Painting

While we are more than willing to assist with take down services, we are not able to provide paint, caulking or ceiling/wall repair services. The skill set of our personnel onsite is to be commiserate with rough carpentry, not trim carpentry or painter.

Timeline

Without specific alterations confirmed in advance, it would be assumed we are to both take down the existing treatments and install the new treatments simultaneously. This both lengthens the duration of installation (reducing the average of 25-30 rooms installed per day, to only 10-15 rooms per day) and supposes no additional paint or finish work is to be accomplished between take down and installation.

Reuse

We strongly advise against removal and reinstallation of existing hardware by the general contractor. With over two decades of experience, we rarely see this method prove successful and would recommend any removed hardware be disposed and new hardware provided.
