Specifying Decorative Pillows may seem as simple as choosing a size and a face fabric but there are other elements that can be just as important. Decorative Pillows can add that extra something that completes a whole room, the pillow closure of a pillow can be that extra detail that makes the difference between a good pillow versus the perfect pillow!
There are some odd words used to specify pillows. To say the least they are not used in most everyday conversations and if they most likely are not being used with the same meaning in mind as we have in pillow manufacturing. Usually we are able to work around this and make sense of any discrepancies in vocab by context clues. But we shouldn’t rely on interpretation and context clues in producing the right pillows for a property that has been coming together for months.
It seems like there would be a straight forward answer to this question but unfortunately there isn’t. The same pillow can actually have two different measurements. First there is the measurement of the pillow, BEFORE being stuffed. Second there is the size of the pillow once it has an insert in it. The trick is knowing when to use what nomenclature so that no one gets confused.
We recently had a customer come to us, concerned that the pillows we made were not up to standard. The customer wanted the pillows to be ‘fuller’, ‘fluffier’, and to keep their shape better. The initial reaction, which is completely logical, was to have the pillows overstuffed, to put more fill in them. The truth though, is this isn’t a question of putting more fill into a pillow it is a discussion of the type of fill to put into a pillow. This is a common misunderstanding between manufacturers, designers, purchasing agents and more. Therefore we thought we would try to shed a bit of light on this ‘fill’ issue for the benefit of us all.
