When Joan Hanson joined our estimating team in 2001, Quiltcraft was a much smaller group. She brought a wide base of experience with her from several sewing industries such as: La Perns where she made women garments and suits, JCPenny, where she sewed rod pockets, and top treatments, and eventually became a designer for them! At Dallas Drapery she started a top treatments department. For ten years she also owned "Joan's Old Town Drapery" designing and creating custom drapes. As a result of all this experience, she was instrumental in starting our own top treatment department here at Quiltcraft! Interestingly, while in the tenth grade, Joan taught sewing classes as a volunteer for the Girls Club of America and won first place in a sewing competition against hundreds of competitors after her foundation entered her work!
Joan is a special addition to our team not only for her vast knowledge, but also her sweet, kind, and joyful spirit which is constantly prepared to joke and laugh! She has always had a comedian’s heart. Because of this, she loves being around people who are fun and know how to have a good time. Growing up, Joan loved to roller skate, ice skate, as well as clog, tap, and ballet dance. Joan also enjoyed performing dances in nursing homes and hospitals as entertainment for the residents. When she was thirty-five, she fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a dance teacher; traveling around teaching country dances. Outside of work, Joan is involved in her church, helping relatives, and going to thrill/ action packed movies!
A word from Joan: “Quiltcraft is like a family to me, they always have been and always will be.”
